About us
UTokyo AI Safety is a student organization at the University of Tokyo. We think the pace of frontier AI development may be outrunning our ability to make it safe — and that this matters, potentially catastrophically, if left unaddressed.
Our goal is to raise awareness of these risks on campus, and to help students who want to contribute — through research, policy, or industry — find a path in.
We're a new club with more to share soon — our first speaker event and fellowship both launch this October.

- AGI HUB A Tokyo-based venture sharing AGI and AI safety/alignment knowledge with Japan through talks, articles, joint research, and policy proposals.
- AI Safety Tokyo A Shibuya-based community, founded in 2023, running weekly study groups and social events on AI safety.
- AI Alignment Network (ALIGN) A nonprofit, founded in 2023, building an AI alignment research ecosystem in Japan by connecting academia and industry.
- Japan AI Safety Institute (AISI) Japan's government AI safety institute, launched in 2024, developing safety evaluation standards and coordinating with AI safety institutes worldwide.
- Shiba AI A Tokyo-based research lab working on AI alignment, interpretability, governance, and security.
